Organisational Ombudsperson

Independent and Confidential Support for Maritime Organisations and Crews

An ombudsperson provides independent, confidential, and informal support to people who have concerns related to their work environment. The role offers a safe point of contact where internal reporting channels or formal procedures do not feel appropriate or effective.

Concerns can be raised in confidence, outside existing structures and formal processes, unless the individual chooses otherwise. The focus is on listening, clarifying situations, and exploring possible ways forward, without pressure to take action or make a formal report. Where appropriate and agreed, anonymised and aggregated feedback can be shared to highlight recurring themes or systemic challenges, while fully preserving individual confidentiality.

I provide ombudsperson services for maritime organisations and NGOs, informed by a clear understanding of maritime operational realitites. I am familiar with contexts in which concerns arise but are not always easy to raise. My approach is practical, respectful, and context-aware, supporting individuals while remaining independent of organisational decision-making.

Why establish an organisational ombudsperson role?

An ombudsperson does not replace existing HR, compliance, or safeguarding processes. Instead, the role complements them by offering an informal and neutral space that can support early dialogue and more proportionate responses.
