Mediation

for better solutions

for all

Conflicts are an inherent part of life. When addressed constructively, they can lead to clearer communication, stronger cooperation, and sustainable solutions. Mediation offers a structured and confidential process that enables parties to clarify issues, explore underlying interests, and develop mutually acceptable agreements.

Mediation is grounded in the principles of voluntariness, impartiality, confidentiality, and party autonomy (German Mediationsgesetz and the EU Code of Conduct for Mediators). Individuals, teams, and organisations can be supported in managing conflict effectively — reducing disruption, restoring dialogue, and strengthening working relationships. Julke’s mediation approach draws on professional training and extensive experience in maritime and organisational settings, with a focus on creating a safe and structured space for dialogue.

The duration and structure of each mediation is tailored to the specific situation. Sessions typically last between 60 and 90 minutes. While many cases are resolved within three to five sessions, some situations may be concluded more quickly, while others benefit from additional time to ensure durable and well-considered outcomes.

for Seafarers & Sailors

Life and work at sea involve particular pressures that can strain communication, increase stress, and make it difficult to address conflicts at an early stage. Maritime mediation offers a neutral, confidential, and voluntary framework to address disputes constructively, supporting dialogue before issues escalate into formal complaints, disciplinary processes, or operational risk.

Mediation can complement existing onboard and company procedures. It provides a structured space for crew members and ship–shore actors to clarify concerns, explore interests, and restore working relationships while respecting established hierarchies, responsibilities, and work requirements.

Depending on the circumstances, mediation may take place on board, remotely during a voyage, or ashore between rotations. It can support the resolution of interpersonal tensions, communication breakdowns between departments, and conflicts arising at the ship–shore interface.

Julke combines extensive seafaring experience with professional mediation in accordance with recognised mediation standards. The objective is to support safety, wellbeing, dignity, and mutual respect on board, while contributing to a resilient maritime working culture.
